Happiness is out, and peace is in.
The goal is no longer to be the happiest person you can be. Only if you’re lucky, can happiness be achieved. The rest of the time, it takes practice just to be content. You have two ways to be happy, by being a spoiled and simple person, or by being completely detached from the human experience. We are doomed if we believe happiness is a state you can achieve.
Instead, peace is the goal. Peace is simple. Peace is not loud and fancy, but rather quiet and patient.
Here are the 3 simple rules to have (more) peace in your life:
- Think less.
- Mind your own business.
- Be grateful.
I did say I would keep it simple. If you think less, you worry less, and if you worry less, you have less anxiety, concern, or fear of the unknown. This creates a soft landing for you to focus on things you can and remove the pattern of wanting to control everything.
Mind your own business, and quit comparing your life and circumstances to everyone else. Today, you can accept that you are doing your best and the attitude you choose despite what is happening can be the peace you seek, or the pain you allow.
Today, you can find something to be thankful for. There is always at least one thing – say the fact you can read! You can have a gratitude practice, or simply start with saying thank you out loud to yourself for being human. We choose our level of gratitude but the first step is to think thankful thoughts. Gratitude is the key to unlocking happiness, and peace.
To summarize, you can not be happy all the time. That’s just an idea. What is most achievable is creating a plan to stop the overthinking, stay present, and practice gratitude. You can do this, and it’s achievable in one day. I truly believe in healthy habits and the power of positive action. Try this and tell me what you think.
